Cleaning and Servicing Benefits | HVAC System Mount Forest

Did you know regular maintenance of your HVAC System is beneficial to the life and operation of your equipment!

A few other tips for year round is to make sure your heating/cooling vents and return air grilles are clear of furniture so that the air can flow smoothly around. Its a good idea to remove the grilles and vacuum them front and back to remove dirt, dust and dander. Also while the grilles are off vacuum down into the heating duct or return air to remove any cob webs (you may be surprised!) and dirt caught in them.

Purchase VS Rental – The Facts – Rent To Own An Affordable Option! | Heating & Cooling

There once was a time when leasing a vehicle was the way to go, you had a lower monthly payment, could get a new vehicle every few years… however you never actually owned that vehicle. You were simply “renting” by paying monthly for use of the vehicle. Major repairs were covered as the vehicle would be under warranty, maintenance was your responsibility – if you chose to of course.

The HVAC industry has been in this trend for many years now with water heaters and more recently getting into furnace and air conditioner rentals.

We can offer you the convenience, security and freedom of rental monthly payments with the benefits of ownership of your equipment! An affordable option of “rent to own” – with an “end” in sight!

We believe in offering our customer the very best value for their money – including protection for your equipment.

SNAP Financing is available for any home comfort improvement, renovation or repair. The financing is based on a monthly payment, 120 month fixed interest rate and the loan is open, which means there is no penalties for making additional payments or paying off the balance of the loan at any time.

This results in a very affordable Rent-To-Own option for anyone wanting to replace or upgrade their existing HVAC Equipment such as your water heater, furnace, air conditioner, hrv or even your fireplace… switching from electric heat? No problem your duct work can be included in this as well!

We are able to offer our customers a 10 Year Parts and Labour Warranty Program  on home comfort appliances (including hot water heaters, furnaces, air conditioners, fireplaces etc) and coverage can be customized for parts and labour coverage.

Check out the info below for SNAP vs RENTAL and give Mike a call for more info! If you would like to pre-qualify you can do so on our website at http://www.jjmclellan.ca/ and click on the button in the top right corner under the website header OR click below on the image. SNAP Pre-Approval-2By purchasing your Home Comfort System with our Rent-To-Own option, which includes the 10 year parts and labour warranty, you can rest and breathe easy knowing that you have low monthly payments and are covered should your equipment break down!

Even better is knowing that you will not be paying forever for the same old, outdated equipment. Once its paid for – its yours! There is no buy out, penalty or additional forms to sign. Our Rent-To-Own Option truly is cut and dry, black and white. It really cannot get much simpler!

Check out the details below comparing costs… it truly breaks my heart when we hear from customers who have a 15 or 20 year old water heater and have been paying the same monthly payment (or more as the rates do increase each year) when the water heater is no longer running efficiently and the capacity could be cut in half (depending on how hard the water is).

Perfect Weather To Clear Snow | The Calm After The Storm

What a gorgeous winter morning to wake up to, at least in our part of Ontario! The temperature a cool yet refreshing -7 with light snow flakes falling.

Please take advantage of this “warmer” winter weather to get outside and ensure the snow is properly cleared around all your vents for your home. This includes dryer vents as well as your heating appliances (furnace, boiler, fireplace) and hot water heater.

The picture below is a photo of the intake and exhaust vents for a forced air furnace. The exhaust is straight out, intake points down. If your vents are blocked they can cause the equipment to not function properly or not work altogether.

Furnace Vents Cleared 20140107_124106_resized

Please also check your filters. A blocked filter will cause your furnace and HRV to work much harder than it is designed to do and possibly over heat. This can cause premature break down of the appliance and reduced life. It is recommended to have your system maintained and cleaned at least once every 2 years while changing your filters every 2-4 months, more often in the heating season.

Don’t forget your plumbing system! Is your basement currently heated? If you have forced air heating in your home having a duct run off the furnace and into your basement – even if its unfinished, will help your mechanical room stay warm and prevent pipes from freezing. Ensure all outside taps are shut off from the inside and the taps are open outside.

Remember to be safe while out driving on the roads! Ensure your windshield is cleared properly, you have a snow brush in your car, your gas tank is full or at least over half full and you are dressed for the weather! Also very helpful if you have a blanket – just in case and a cell phone (fully charged or with a charger in your vehicle).

Enjoy… a photo from yesterday morning!

Staying Warm In The Cold Temperatures – Winter is here!

The cold winter temperatures are here and will continue dropping this weekend (as per the weather man that is)!.

This means your heating system is going to be working harder – it really has had it easy this winter season up until now 😉 To ensure your system is working efficiently and air is circulating properly throughout your home there are a few things you need to do…

  1. Change your filter – this should be done every 2-3 mths or every 1 month during heating season.
  2. Ensure your vents are clear inside – this includes your heat registers inside your home (where the heat comes out of – typically on an exterior wall) and also your cold air returns (where air returns to the furnace to be re-heated and circulated – typically on an interior wall of the room). Vacuum your vents during heating season, you might be surprised how much dust and pet hair can be sucked up into them. Take off the registers and clean inside the duct, this is where alot of dust and pet hair likes to hide as well!
  3. Ensure your vents are clear outside – this is where your heating system vents outdoors, if these vents get covered by snow or even plants your furnace can suffocate/over heat and it could cause serious damage.
  4. Ensure your heating system has room in your mechanical room… do not crowd it with boxes or whatever else you may store in your basement. Yes its not the most attractive piece of equipment but it needs space to work properly.

We highly recommend having your furnace cleaned prior to the heating season – August/September to ensure you are ready ! This will not stop any malfunctions or breakdowns, however it will prevent it … “preventative maintenance” and will ensure the system is operating properly and efficiently as per the manufacturer. Many times the manufacturer may not cover a part under warranty (even if within the warranty period) if the furnace has not been properly maintained. This is very similar to how the car manufacturer’s work as well. Our technicians do perform cleanings all year round, however in the midst of heating season (December/January) it is more difficult to ensure timely service for our cleanings. To schedule your heating and cooling system annual cleaning please contact us and we will put you on our service list, preferably for the Spring, Summer and Fall :).

To buy or not to buy… protection plans & extended warranty!

I am a big believer in extended warranties for anything worth saving for… furniture, heating & cooling equipment, large appliances, vehicle and yes even my camera. I can personally advise from experience how beneficial an extended warranty can be for YOU!

My personal experience comes from when we bought our new living room furniture 3.5 yrs ago, we invested in the fabric care warranty (with kids and a dog it was a must!) AND the furniture we bought came with a 5 year warranty on the mechanical components of the recliners. Last night I sat on the couch, extended the foot rest and the entire seat of the couch twisted. With the extended warranty there is no worry about out of pocket expenses, we are covered and new parts will be delivered and installed! We also have had to use the fabric care warranty with marker stains on our couch… lovely budding artists we have 😉

With our Complete Care Warranty we can offer you complete peace of mind and home comfort for 10 years! Your parts and labour are covered. The only thing you need to do is regularly maintain your system – just like your vehicle!

Our Homes Magazine | Home & Builder Feature

I still remember checking my email and seeing a response from the Our Homes Magazine team wanting to see photos of the custom built home we did the Plumbing and HVAC in… I was stoked! Be sure to watch for the Wellington County Fall Edition of the Our Homes Magazine to see the wonderful write up about the contractors who worked on this home, yes including JJ McLellan & Son.

Over the months that our technicians did work at this home I continued to hear more and more about it and the enthusiasm in their voices was just contagious! Everyone wanted to hear more about it, the guys all wanted to talk about it and talk about how much fun it was for them to do something out of the ordinary. For example each washroom was different, different fixtures, colours etc. The kitchen had a variety of stations, appliances and the finishings are just beautiful! The guys also put in the septic system for the plumbing.

I was lucky enough to get a few tours of the home by both our guys and the home owners. I loved going when the guys were there and having them show me what they each thought was awesome. Our plumbers of course were so very proud of the custom shower in the mastersuite as well as the other washrooms each with their own distinct look and then in the kitchen all of the cool features and finishes. Our heating tech’s were just as proud to show of their pride of the home… the mechanical room!

And where better to start than the true “heart” of the home, where everything mechanical is housed and runs. The mechanical room that our tech’s are so very proud of ! The mechanical room is for both the heating and cooling for the home as well as the hot water. The home has infloor heating in both the main floor and downstairs as well as geothermal (for heating and cooling). The infloor heating in the basement provides and excellent and very efficient way to keep the “chill” out all year round!

At first I will be honest I thought really, does a married couple really need that big of a shower or an end for each other. After seeing the shower, my opinion has changed quite dramatically. Its genius really! I know my husband and I both use different products and there is only so much room on the shelf and the rest is on the floor of the shower… I would LOVE to put in a shower like this in our master ensuite!
